All the answers you need when updating to froyo 2.2 on the VM Samsung Intercept

The Samsung intercept for virgin mobile is finally getting froyo 2.2 but.. What is the meaning of that? What difference will it make on my phone compared to the previous version (2.1)? What if the update did not show off on my phone? This and much more questions would be answer on this simple but very useful blog.
-Why should I update to froyo 2.2? What is the difference between froyo 2.2 and 2.1 on my Samsung intercept?
Going to froyo is a big step, it will your phone performance significantly. How? First of all the phone will be faster performing tasks, from making a call to playing a game (like angry birds). Another good thing (of the many) that froyo will bring to your phone will be more battery life. At some cases even your internet speed will improve. So, should you update to 2.2 froyo? Probably yes. But keep in mind there are some downsides.
-What are the risks of updating to froyo in your Samsung intercept?
When one is making any change there is always some risks. Updating to froyo also has its risks and downsides (very few of them). In the process of updating, always there is a possibility that it may brick your phone, meaning that there a possibility that the phone will get stuck in the screen that appears when you start the phone or that the phone does not starts again. That should not happen if you are installing the original VM froyo to the Samsung intercept with the original 2.1 version. WARNING – IF YOU INSTALL FROYO AND THE PHONE RUNS OUT OF BATTERY IN THE PROSSESS YOUR PHONE WILL BRICK, SO MAKE SURE YOU CHARGE FULLY THE PHONE BEFORE INSTALLING FROYO. Also there are some features that you won’t have on froyo.
-What features froyo does not have compared to the ones that 2.1 have?
The most important features that froyo does not have is the quick bottoms (Wi-Fi, Silence, Bluetooth, etc. ) in top of the notification bar that the 2.1 does have. The lock screen will change from the one that you slide up to the one that you slide to the side. The signal strength, the Wi-Fi icon and the battery-life icon also will change to ones simpler and not as good looking as the ones of the 2.1. Overall with froyo you will be able to do the same and much more than with 2.1 installed, the only difference will be some graphic changes.
-I want to update to froyo but the update does not appears on my phone, what can I do?
If you have the original version of 2.1 on your Samsung intercept and you did not have not got the update notification yet the first thing you have to do is go to SETTING>ABOUT PHONE> SYSTEM UPDATE> UPDATE ANDROID or go to SETTING>ABOUT PHONE> UPDATE ANDROID. If that does not work for you then you have to manually download the update by clicking this link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GGPI8HNN and then try by putting it on your sd card’s main folder . After that go to recovery mode by turning off the phone and then pressing volume down + call key plus end key (without having the phone charging) , when you are in recovery mode press apply update.zip. If that does not work (it gives you signature error) try renaming the update.zip file to “update” only or “Update” or “Update.zip”. If that does not work ether then you have to install a custom recovery and then manually flash the update.
